It’s nearly three years since “the pandemic” hit and we were thrust into a dramatic change. We baked bread, clapped on our doorsteps, went down rabbit holes, trusted the science, questioned the narrative, got vaccinated, got sick, got angry, got complacent, got conned. Now, as we tentatively ease out of lockdown, perhaps with the now constant spectre of further badly named strains and viruses surfacing, maybe some of us are looking forward and trying to put the last 3 years out of our minds. Perhaps an album full of covid based commentary is too much too soon (or perhaps too late). Regardless, it’s something I had lying on my chest like a bad cold and felt the need to cough it up.

During Lockdown I wrote and released a few tracks, and towards the middle of 2022 I realised these already released tracks and the other thoughts I’d penned into verse form were the makings of an album. I understood that this may be a polarising project, with many people perhaps disagreeing with some of my sentiments, but I’ve always been about making music for me first and foremost, and also always tend to gravitate towards material with meaning. I just couldn’t let this event slide by undocumented.

Because the tracks are chronologically placed , I feel like I’ve created a diary that expresses my changes in opinion throughout the pandemic. So, if nothing else, I think that most people will relate to this aspect of uncertainty and confusion. Agree or disagree, it’s of less importance than the fact that we don’t give space for differences of opinion these days. We vilify the slightest contrary thought to our own and the common ground is fast being swamped under a sea of greed, hatred and intolerance.

So, hate it or love it, “Locked Down Memoirs” is my contribution to the conversation. If you don’t want to hear it, nobody is pressuring you to. This isn’t the vaccine!
Peace
